This was my first out of the country destination wedding! Traveling is something I love to do and so is shooting weddings so I had a blast.
I met Susana and Justin so long ago. I think they booked me a year a half out because it was out of the country. We instantly hit it off and they felt like old friends. She kept me informed about all the craziness of having a destination wedding through out the year. I can understand her frustrations as my husband and I were married in Puerto Rico. The islands are on their own time. No worries!
My husband came along to second shoot and my son tagged along also. We all had a great time in the Bahamas and it was the nicest beach I have ever swam in. Pure white sands, crystal blue waters, no waves and the perfect temp. What more can you ask for? A little sun, some relaxing and shooting a wedding in a beautiful location. I can get used to this!
One thing I have to say is thank goodness Susana was a calm bride. Things changed right up the last minute and in the end it was a very simple, fun and relaxing wedding. She started her day at the Sandals resort salon for hair and make-up after a last minute change of salons. Then she took a break to relax and it started to rain. We had anticipated shooting their wedding portraits before the ceremony since the reception was short. Well that rainy Jersey weather showed up in the Bahamas.
The rain did stop though and right before the ceremony and the rest of the day was picture perfect. Which is why I selected the song on the slideshow. They had a beautiful ceremony on the beach with the Island Precha and their closest family and friends. Their videographer was the WORST but he was booked last minute. I couldn't believe how many shots he got in and he stood in front of guests and even worse both of the parents. I could understand if it was 200 people but there was about 30 people. My husband and I just had to work a little more creatively not to get him or his massive tripod in the shots. Working with my husband was great for the ceremony because we were able to get reactions of both the bride and groom.
After the ceremony they had a sand ceremony and a labor intensive signing of papers to be legally married in the Bahamas. I think it was something like 16 signatures by each of them and their witnesses. The Island Precha kept the guests entertained with some great music. After the signing the whole party went down to the ocean and made a wish on a seashell before tossing it into the ocean. Great idea!
We did out wedding portraits and then headed to the reception. Jose the DJ kept the entire party dancing all night and you will see by the pictures that this is a fun crowd. All I have to say is their cake topper is two monkeys. After spending their wedding day with them I know why. Susana and Justin have fun in life. They constantly make each other laugh and surround themselves by great friends and family. They made our trip a very enjoyable and one we will never forget.
